Why Are Kids Ringing The Bell?

I had a couple parents ask me today so I thought I would clarify.

For school age gymnasts (6 and up), they set three goals on a "goal card"
during the week that we lit the flame, April 7-12. They should have that
card at home. The coach has a record of the goals set. Each time they
achieve one of their goals, they get to ring the bell. That's why we want
you to clap! Something really cool just happened for that child. As long
as they achieve at least one goal, they have earned their gold medal to
be awarded at the "Performance and Awards Ceremony", August 11-16.

The Tumblebunny age (0-5), get to ring the bell each time they learn a
new trick. I had a one year old ring it today for doing a two footed jump
for the very first time on the trampoline. That is one of THE BIGGEST
skills for the brain and body to perform. Ring that bell!!!

Bell Ringing!

I am a little concerned that so many school age gymnasts were ringing the bell the first week into the Summer Games. Maybe those goals weren't hard enough? It's possible that it was the one skill that has eluded them for months and months and lo and behold, on the first week of Summer Games, they finally did it!!! I hope so.
Now Tumblebunnies (all preschool age gymnasts), are in a different program. They get to ring the bell each and every time a new skill is performed ALONE that they have never before mastered.
Keep working toward your goals everybody! Thanks for clapping so loud when that bell rings! It's quite thrilling!

Let The Games Begin!

The flame has been lit (mulitple times!)
There were moments of chills for me. Watching the kids pass the torch until it reached the flame was certainly the highlight. It was also great to see the team gym kids and the coaches perform. It was a glimpse into what all of the school age classes will be doing in August. Right now I think the coaches are more excited than the kids. I know of two that have fully choreographed routines ready to go!
All of the school age gymnasts will perform a group routine in August at the gold medal awards ceremony. They will also be performing on vault, mini tramp, beam and bars.
The preschoolers, TumbleBunny's, will be performing on their own circuits of equipment and also, they will do a red, white and blue ribbon routine on the big blue floor.
It's going to be an exciting summer! Things always heat up in our sport when it's an Olympic year. We can't wait to see the men and women compete in Beijing!
